Microsoft Excel - Introduction

Introduction

This course is designed to give a thorough introduction to the basic skills needed to use Excel effectively. This one-day instructor led course will be a combination of group discussion and hands-on practice. Each section of the course will provide an opportunity to explore the new subject area, followed by an exercise to reinforce learning. All courses are highly interactive and we encourage all delegates to join in, to enhance their learning process.

Course Aim

To provide delegates who have no previous knowledge with a good understanding of the basics of creating a Spreadsheet and an introduction to the Excel functionality

Course Objectives

By the end of the course, delegates will be able to:

  • Create or edit professional looking spreadsheets and add formatting
  • Use Excel to calculate addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and percentages
  • Use Excel functions to calculate average, maximum or minimum value in a range of numbers
  • Create charts to represent data with impact
  • Use keyboard and mouse shortcuts for completion of basic tasks

Pre-requisites

We recommend that all those who attend are able to:

  • Use the mouse to select and open menus and icons

  • Creating formulae to calculate
  • Order of calculation in Excel
  • Copying formulae using cell references
  • Using AutoSum
  • Using Excel functions: Average, Max and Min
  • Formatting cells
  • Formatting: aligning, merging and wrapping text in cells; changing text orientation
  • Creating simple charts
  • Printing
