IOSH Managing Safely

Managing safely is for those required to manage safely and effectively in compliance with both their organisation's policy and best practice in Health and Safety. Managing safely comprises of seven core modules requiring a total direct input period of at least 24 hours plus assessment time. The delivery can be spread over a convenient time span. One organization-specific module may be added if required. The aim of the course is to assist delegates to w ork more safely themselves, manage safety more effectively and contribute to the safety of their organisation. The programme is taught using a mixture of lectures, group work and practical exercises to maintain interest and to allow delegates to practice the skills they have learned, so that they can be applied in the workplace.

Certification

An IOSH Managing Safely certificate is awarded to all those who attend the course and successfully complete the written and practical assessments.

Assessment:

The course is assessed in the following ways:

  • An end of course assessment and
  • A work-based risk assessment exercise - to be completed after the course and submitted for assessment within 2 weeks.

Practice assessments are conducted during the course and delegates are fully briefed on the requirements of the risk assessment exercise.

Delegate Requirements:

Delegates should have a basic understanding of workplace health & safety, and should be capable of undertaking a written and practical assessment.

Pre-course Reading :

Although not essential, it would be useful for delegates to be familiar with the HSE publication HSG65 Successful Health & Safety Management.
