Microsoft Word - Intermediate

Introduction

This course is designed to give experienced users of Word knowledge of more advanced commands and features and how to apply these in their own business challenges. This one-day instructor led course will be a combination of group discussion and hands-on practice. Each section of the course will provide an opportunity to explore the new subject area, followed by an exercise or activity to reinforce learning. All courses are highly interactive and we encourage all delegates to join in, to enhance their learning process.

Course Aims

To develop the delegate's knowledge of creating rich text and formatted documents, structuring documents correctly and allowing letters to be automatically merged with address information

Course Objectives

By the end of the course, delegates will be able to:

  • Speed up the creation and enhancement of large documents with styles, headers and footers, and templates
  • Create newsletter style documents that incorporate graphics and columns
  • Send the same letter or label to many different people
  • Automate routine tasks with basic macros

Pre-requisites

We recommend that all those who attend are able to:

  • Use Word at an introductory level

Course Content

  • Inserting or drawing a table
  • Applying borders and shading to a table, inserting and deleting columns and rows
  • Sorting data and calculating in a table
  • Creating, applying and modifying styles
  • Applying outline/multi-level paragraph numbering
  • Creating a newsletter-style document with text in columns, dropped caps and text boxes
  • Inserting, resizing and moving pictures or clipart:
  • Wrapping text around pictures or clipart
  • Creating and saving a usable template
  • Applying a header and footer
  • Applying different headers and footers to sections of a document: to include formatted page numbering, dates and filenames
  • Mail merge: creating a standard (form) letter and a data file
  • Creating a sheet of mailing labels from a table of addresses
  • Filtering and sorting the data prior to merging
  • Recording and running a macro
  • Assigning macros to toolbar buttons and shortcut keys
